Ritter and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary with a four day trip to NYC. This post is about the food we ate there! We researched vegetarian/vegan restaurants, and had a blast! Our trip consisted of amazing gallery visits, museums, etc, but food was more than half of the purpose of our trip.
Portugal Family Trip Part One - Obidos
Happy Friday! Today is our 10 year wedding anniversary - I am so thankful for my husband and our family. This blog post is first of a few that will show photos from our trip to Portugal a couple years ago. Today's post is about Obidos. I've been to Obidos many times over the years, ever since I was as little as my kids in this picture. It is a medieval walled city that has been continuously occupied, and there are about 3000 residents now. It is one of my favorite places in Portugal.

Happy Friday! As it is the first Friday of the month, I'm sharing about our home. One of the best rooms of our house is our sunroom. It is right off of our dining room/kitchen, and gives us access to our backyard. It is always bright and cheery there, and is a wonderful place to take a nap!
A dinner party with Vietnamese spring rolls and appetizers!
We had a dinner party on Wednesday. It was so much fun! I was thinking about what to post this week, and I realized I could share about the food we ate! Two birds, one stone. Everything in the above picture is from Aldi - I love that store. They are not only cheap, they have really good appetizer food! They have a LOT of organic food, as well as a whole line of gluten free products. I'm not being paid by them to say this - I just love them, enjoy what they do, and hope their prices don't go up!
It only took me a year to get back to printing!
When I started blogging weekly at the beginning of the year, I hoped to have a post about prints I was working on at least once a month. It is already May, and this is the first time I've had the chance. With all of my photography work and setting up our house, my inks have dried up in their containers and paper sat in flat files. I've been really excited to be able to mix up colors and print this week. Have a look at what I've been up to!
Barcelona~
Yay, it's vacation picture sharing time. From two years ago... Two summers ago we took a month long trip to Portugal and Spain, and there are sooooo many pictures that it seems impossible to go through them. So, I've started to chip at it and will share parts of it on the blog as I get through it! The kids look so little - of course I've been mourning their growing up with lots of wails and tears. (only partly kidding) So today I'm sharing about Barcelona, and this amazing structure is La Sagrada Familia. Designed by Antoni Gaudi, it's been in construction since 1882, and its still going!
Our living room!
Yay, we are finally sharing our living room! It was a lot of fun to put this room together. In our almost 10 years of marriage, Ritter and I have collected a lot of things from places we have lived in and travelled to. We also love finding "treasures" at thrift stores and Craigslist - it is so much more fun than buying at a big box store.
Spring break at Colonial Williamsburg~
Our family went to Williamsburg for Spring Break. We had a great time, and here are just a few (just kidding, its a lot) pictures from our trip!
We're going to build a backyard playshed!
Ritter and I wanted to build our own house before we realized we were crazy and couldn't do that while having jobs and kids in D.C., but we've always liked making things. Our kids have loved playing outside for several hours a day these past few months while the yard has been warm and not yet overwhelmed by mosquitoes. We know the mosquitoes are coming, and we mourn that very much. We've racked our brains to try to figure out how we can let our kids enjoy our backyard while not being eaten by bugs. Our solution is a shed with a LOT of windows, in our backyard.
How many cushions can you make in a day?
This week was a bit busy, so I gave myself a day to make work for the blog. I have wanted to make cushions for a while, and I had this grand plan to make a bunch in a day. Yeah, I ended up with two. I was very close to making five - I had all the pieces cut out and put together, but for three of them, I didn't get the front and back but together to finish it before I needed to photograph it... Oh the joys of deadlines...
A more-is-more boy's room!
Happy Friday! I'm sharing our son Nuelie's room today. His room is definitely the best room of the house. It sits on top of our garage, and it always feels a little bit like you're entering a fort because you have to step down a couple of steps to get into it. It always has great light except for the day I shot these pictures - a day of thunderstorms in the middle of a sunny and gorgeous week. The amazing wool rug is a gift from my in-laws - a Tubu rug - all the way from north Africa.

We made a Lego play area!
When we redid the girls' dollhouse we told Nuelie we would do something special for his room. His room is very small, but there is a little alcove where we made him a set of shelves for him to play with and keep his legos. We wanted to make it special, so we used old maps and two books by Oliver Jeffers.
A quilt and three kids.
This week has been unusual for me. I've been happy, sad, busy, tired and excited. Actually, I guess that's not unusual - totally normal week then. This month we've been working on Nuelie's room, and I'm trying to get his quilt finally quilted. The front and back of the quilt started years ago, and I've had the panels done for a couple years now. I even started quilting this thing and half way through I ripped all the seams out. When will I get this quilt done?!? I thought I'd let the kids have fun and let them play with the panels and you'd get to see what the quilt looks like.
A trip to Charleston, South Carolina.
Last summer some of my siblings and I took my kids to Charleston, South Carolina. We were looking for a wonderful place to spend a few days, and it was perfect. Ritter was studying for the LSAT, and my brothers were going to travel before going to work after college. Everyone was going through lots of transition, and we needed a break!
How to make a quilt in a week.
Yeah, I didn't make a quilt in a week. Not that it's not possible, but I just didn't! This is a 16" x 20" piece that hangs on the wall - not on a bed. I wanted to use some of my more colorful fabric and make something that looks a little different from what I normally do.
Bella & Ellie's girly bedroom~
This week was rough. All of us had the flu, but somehow I stayed healthy enough to take care of everyone. Ritter is usually the healthy one, and I am the most sickly - we switched roles this week! While fighting a fever, Ritter helped me put up shelves, hang pictures, and move everything. I'm so thankful for my husband. I was also happy to finally put our girls' room together with things that we've collected and made over the years. Hope you all enjoy seeing it!

Today's post is another landscape in fabric. Last month I wrote about my interest in making work about abstracted landscapes, and posted images of a piece I made. The fabric in this piece is a mix of my hand dyed/painted fabrics, Dutch wax prints, fabrics printed in Niger. and a Marimekko print.
